Alanis Morissette has filed a lawsuit against her former tour manager, accusing her of engaging in a deliberate blackmail scheme to incriminate Morissette in drug trafficking unless she agreed to sign a lengthy contract with her. The Canadian singer-songwriter lodged the lawsuit in California, alleging that Keren Urinov threatened to report her to British authorities for drug trafficking unless Morissette hired her as a tour director for 15 years and paid her substantial compensation.
The lawsuit cites civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation as the basis for Morissette’s legal action against Urinov, emphasizing Morissette’s refusal to succumb to the blackmail attempt and her determination to expose the scheme and hold Urinov accountable.
The incident dates back to 2025 when Urinov, previously associated with Live Nation’s Israeli operations, was temporarily hired as a tour manager for Morissette’s world tour. During a trip from the U.K. to Spain for a concert, Urinov allegedly faced legal trouble at the airport after a bag she claimed ownership of was found to contain marijuana and xylazine, a non-opioid animal tranquilizer. Subsequently, Urinov was detained for questioning on two separate occasions, with the second incident occurring the day after the initial arrest.
Following the tour’s conclusion, Urinov purportedly sent a series of coercive letters to Morissette, demanding a fixed 15-year contract with substantial remuneration as well as assistance in obtaining a work visa for the United States. The lawsuit reveals Morissette’s reservations about Urinov’s managerial capabilities during the 2025 tour, citing instances of mismanagement and undisclosed criminal history, including an alleged drug smuggling incident in Latin America.
Despite her reluctance to resort to legal action, Morissette felt compelled to sue Urinov to prevent being coerced into a long-term partnership with someone she deemed incompetent and manipulative. The lawsuit concludes by stating Morissette’s intention to seek resolution through a jury trial. Requests for comments from Urinov and Morissette’s representatives are pending response.
