Manitoba’s team at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts is leading the way in Pool B with a flawless 4-0 record. Beth Peterson’s squad secured a decisive 9-2 victory over Northern Ontario’s Krista Scharf, showcasing their strategic play and teamwork. Coach Jill Officer commended the team’s ability to make critical shots when needed and support each other during the game.
Peterson, who transitioned from skip to third position, delivered an impressive performance with an 88 percent throw accuracy. Meanwhile, Kelsey Calvert, now the skip and fourth thrower, excelled with a remarkable 95 percent accuracy. The team, which includes Melissa Gordon-Kurz and Katherine Remillard, maintained the Team Peterson name after rearranging positions following a disappointing finish at the Canadian Pre-Trials.
Calvert, formerly known as Kelsey Rocque, expressed comfort with the team’s decisions and emphasized the collective effort in their success. Despite the name change, the team’s focus remains on playing well and supporting each other. In the ongoing round-robin matches, Manitoba has outscored opponents 36-16, displaying a dominant performance.
In another match, Lawes secured a 9-4 victory over Kerri Einarson, positioning herself at the top of Pool A with a flawless 5-0 record. Lawes’ exceptional play, including a highlight-reel angle-raise double-takeout, showcased the team’s determination and skill. The top three teams from each pool after the round-robin matches will advance to the playoffs, with the final set for Sunday. The tournament winner will represent Canada at the upcoming world women’s curling championship in Calgary in March.
