Durham authorities reported that an 82-year-old woman passed away after being hit by a vehicle while crossing a street in Whitby on Friday. The incident occurred at the intersection of Brock Street N. and Mary Street W. around 1:15 p.m., as detailed in a social media update by the Durham Regional Police Service on Saturday.
After the collision, the pedestrian was rushed to a hospital in Toronto with life-threatening injuries, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver involved in the accident stayed at the scene and fully cooperated with the police inquiry, according to Durham officials.
Following the tragic event, Durham police announced the closure of the intersection of Brock Road N. and Mary Street W. for investigative purposes in a social media post on Friday. The roads were reopened around 7 p.m. that same day, as confirmed by Durham police to CBC Toronto.
