Carly Simon Opens Up About Parkinson’s and Cancer Battles

Renowned singer Carly Simon has opened up about her recent period of silence, attributing it to her battle with Parkinson’s disease and basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer. The 83-year-old artist shared that her health struggles began with arthritis in her knees and hip, leading to multiple replacement surgeries and eventually a Parkinson’s diagnosis after an evaluation at the Mayo Clinic.

In a statement, Simon expressed the challenges of adjusting to the Parkinson’s diagnosis, which impacts her mobility and energy levels unpredictably. She also underwent treatment for the cancer on her face, which altered her appearance and heightened her self-consciousness about public visibility.

Despite these health setbacks, Simon revealed that she has been working on a new album titled “Comes in Waves,” finding solace in music during this difficult period. While acknowledging the daily challenges posed by Parkinson’s, she emphasized her determination to continue living and working, albeit at a slower pace and with greater reliance on others for support.

Simon’s candid revelations shed light on the realities of living with Parkinson’s, a progressive neurological condition affecting millions worldwide. The singer’s resilience and creative pursuits underscore her ongoing commitment to her artistry, even in the face of health adversities.
