“Buffy the Vampire Slayer Actor Anthony Head Dies at 72”

British actor Anthony Head, recognized for his roles in TV shows like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Ted Lasso,” has passed away at the age of 72, as confirmed by his family on Friday. Head’s daughters, Emily and Daisy Head, shared with the Press Association news agency that the actor had complications from pneumonia.

In the 1980s, Head captivated British audiences as part of a romantic duo in advertisements for Nescafé instant coffee, which were later adapted for American viewers as Taster’s Choice. He gained widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Rupert Giles, the wise mentor in the beloved supernatural series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” which aired from 1997 to 2003.

Recently, Head portrayed the antagonistic ex-husband Rupert Mannion in the hit series “Ted Lasso.” His daughters expressed their profound sorrow over his passing but highlighted his enduring legacy in the entertainment world.

Born into a family involved in the entertainment industry, Head entered the world on February 20, 1954, in London. Throughout his career, he took on various roles, such as portraying Geoffrey Howe in the film “The Iron Lady” and assuming the character of a prime minister in the comedic show “Little Britain.” Additionally, he appeared in productions like “Merlin,” “Motherland,” “Manchild,” and “Silent Witness,” showcasing his versatility as an actor.

In addition to his acting career, Head was also recognized for his musical talents and his advocacy for animal welfare. Tragically, in 2025, he lost his longtime partner, Sarah Fisher, at the age of 61.
