Police in York Region issued a cautionary alert to the public following a recent coyote incident in Markham, Ontario, on Sunday. The incident involved a child being bitten by a coyote in a park located at Roy Rainey and Bur Oak avenues around 7:30 p.m. The child, approximately five years old, was promptly taken to the hospital, and fortunately, the bite was not life-threatening.
Authorities advise residents to exercise caution when visiting parks in the vicinity of McCowan Road and 16th Avenue in Markham. This warning comes after a similar incident last week, where a 16-year-old girl was bitten by a coyote in the area of Mingay and Bur Oak avenues, resulting in minor injuries and hospitalization.
Police emphasize the importance of remaining vigilant, maintaining a safe distance from wildlife, and refraining from approaching or attempting to feed coyotes to prevent such incidents.
