Renowned Grammy-winning R&B vocalist Peabo Bryson, known for his collaborations on Disney movie soundtracks including Beauty and the Beast with Céline Dion and Aladdin’s A Whole New World with Regina Belle, has passed away at the age of 75.
In a statement released by his family, they expressed their sorrow over the loss of Bryson but found solace in the widespread love and impact he had through his music over his illustrious five-decade career. Apart from his Disney classics, Bryson was celebrated for hits like Feel the Fire, I’m So Into You, and Can You Stop the Rain.
Celine Dion, in a heartfelt message on X, extended her condolences to Bryson’s family, reminiscing about their collaboration on Beauty and the Beast, a track that garnered two Grammy Awards and two Academy Awards. Angela Lansbury, who voiced a character in the film, performed the song at the 1992 Oscars.
Hailing from South Carolina, Bryson, a versatile singer and songwriter, worked with various record labels and collaborated with a host of renowned artists, such as Minnie Riperton, Roberta Flack, and Natalie Cole. His discography includes hits like Tonight, I Celebrate My Love and If Ever You’re in My Arms Again.
After making a successful return to the studio in 2018 with Stand for Love, Bryson released his 22nd album, Grace, in February 2022. Besides his music career, he also dabbled in stage productions like Raisin, The Wiz, and Porgy and Bess.
After suffering a heart attack in 2019, Bryson made a full recovery but faced health challenges when he had a stroke in late May. Tributes poured in from fellow artists and admirers, with plans for memorial services to be announced at a later time.
