The Charge secured a new franchise record with their fifth consecutive victory as Anna Meixner, Ronja Savolainen, Brianne Jenner, and Rebecca Leslie all found the net to defeat the Vancouver Goldeneyes 4-2 in Ottawa on Friday night. Gwyneth Philips made 23 saves for Ottawa while Sophie Jaques and Michelle Karvinen scored for Vancouver, with Kristen Campbell stopping 23 shots.
Opening the scoring at 10:12 of the first period, Savolainen capitalized on a rebound from a Peyton Hemp shot. Meixner extended Ottawa’s lead to 2-0 at 5:07 of the third period by beating Campbell on the glove side.
Vancouver got on the scoreboard at 11:13 when Jaques maneuvered the puck from her own end, maneuvered past Hemp, and placed a shot past Brooke’s Hobson’s legs. Jenner’s empty-net goal at 18:35 turned out to be the game-winner before Karvinen scored 23 seconds later. Leslie sealed the victory with another empty-net goal with 24 seconds left.
The Goldeneyes have only managed one road win in five games this season. The Charge will face the Boston Fleet in Halifax on Sunday, while the Goldeneyes will play against the Victoire in Montreal on the same day.
