“Nova Scotia Hit by Severe Snowstorm: Schools Shut, Transit Altered”

All schools in Nova Scotia were shut down on Tuesday due to severe snowfall and strong winds across the province. Closure of schools extended to all eight regional centers, with some university campuses also experiencing delayed opening. The Halifax Regional Municipality emphasized the clearance of main roads and sidewalks in a news release on Monday night, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel to facilitate cleanup operations and ensure crew safety and efficiency.

Halifax Transit buses operated on designated snow routes on Tuesday, while the curbside solid waste collection scheduled for the day was rescheduled to Saturday. The municipality announced the enforcement of its winter parking ban from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Wednesday. Additionally, some flights at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport were canceled, impacting operations due to the ongoing storm. Passengers were advised to verify their flight statuses before heading to the airport.

The storm was projected to bring 15 to 25 centimeters of snow across the province, with expected totals exceeding 40 centimeters in southwestern areas. Wind speeds ranged between 60 and 80 km/h, reaching 90 km/h in exposed locations, causing blowing snow, drifting, and reduced visibility.
