A fatal shooting occurred on a GO Transit bus near Yorkdale Shopping Mall on Sunday evening, leading to the death of a man, as confirmed by the authorities. The incident took place around 7 p.m. at the GO terminal near Yorkdale Road and William R. Allen Road ramp in North York, as reported by the Toronto Police Service (TPS) on social media.
Following the shooting, passengers and GO staff were safely evacuated from the bus, according to a Metrolinx media relations statement. Both police and EMS personnel are present at the scene to handle the situation, as communicated by Metrolinx.
In response to the incident, bus service at Yorkdale GO has been temporarily suspended. Commuters are advised to board at the York Mills terminal until further notice, as stated in the official announcement. Det.-Sgt. Jason Davis of the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit mentioned during a briefing that a suspect has been apprehended, and a firearm has been confiscated.
The investigation has been taken over by the TPS homicide unit. Concerned customers traveling on trains or buses are encouraged to utilize the yellow strip or text “HELP” to 77777 for immediate assistance, as outlined in a statement issued by Metrolinx on Monday. Additionally, Metrolinx assured that special constables and customer protection officers are stationed on trains, platforms, and stations around the clock to provide additional support.
