ICE Officer in Fatal Shooting Previously Dragged by Vehicle, Federal Officials Claim

In the latest development, additional details have surfaced regarding the ICE officer who fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis. The officer, involved in the recent shooting incident, was previously dragged by a different driver’s vehicle over a considerable distance during a separate immigration operation in the Twin Cities region six months ago, as per the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Following the June incident in Bloomington, Minnesota, the officer required over 30 stitches due to injuries sustained. The person involved in that incident was later convicted of assault. Vice-President JD Vance and U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem extensively discussed the officer’s actions during a news conference, emphasizing their stance that the officer acted in self-defense when he fired the fatal shot.

Despite the assertions made by federal officials, local and state authorities have consistently refuted the Trump administration’s narrative, pointing to video evidence that contradicts claims of the woman deliberately using her vehicle as a weapon. The officer’s identity has not been disclosed by federal officials, and independent verification by CBC News remains inconclusive. However, the details shared by Vance and Noem closely align with federal court documents related to an incident involving an ICE officer named Jonathan Ross in Bloomington last June.

Court records reveal that during the June 19 incident, the officer, believed to be the same one involved in the recent shooting, was dragged by a vehicle driven by Roberto Carlos Muñoz, an undocumented immigrant with a criminal history. The officer’s arm was caught in the vehicle as Muñoz drove away, dragging him for nearly 100 meters before hitting a curb and freeing the officer.

Muñoz was subsequently convicted of assaulting a federal officer. The officer, identified as Jonathan Ross in court documents, sustained multiple injuries during the arrest, requiring medical attention and stitches. The contentious accounts of the incident have led to a growing divide between local and federal officials, with conflicting narratives emerging regarding the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting in Minneapolis.

Video footage verified by CBC News captured the moments leading up to the shooting, showing ICE officers approaching a vehicle and subsequent events culminating in gunfire. Amidst the ongoing controversy, differing perspectives on the incident have sparked debates between officials, with contrasting interpretations of the events that unfolded. The tragic loss of Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three and U.S. citizen, has further intensified the scrutiny surrounding the incident, prompting emotional responses and calls for justice.
