For over 40 years, Kiddie Kobbler in Ottawa has been a go-to spot for parents seeking children’s footwear, from snow boots to skateboard shoes. However, the store’s owner, Robert Krantzberg, known as “The Shoeman,” recently announced his retirement at the end of March.
Krantzberg expressed his love for the job but cited physical strain as a reason for stepping back. Having started his career at a Montreal Kiddie Kobbler as a teenager, his vision was always to create a welcoming store for kids, leading to multiple generations of families returning for shoes.
Following the announcement of the store’s closure, customers, including those from outside Ottawa like Rachel Buliziuk from British Columbia, praised the exceptional service they received. The store’s personal touch has left a lasting impression on customers like Buliziuk, who continues to shop there for her daughter.
One long-time customer, 11-year-old Britton Walby, shared his loyalty to the store since infancy and faces uncertainty about where to shop next. While Krantzberg considers selling the store, he emphasizes the importance of finding a new owner passionate about providing a positive experience for customers over mere profit.
