Anna Bargman notched her first PWHL goal, and Kristyna Kaltounkova netted the decisive goal for the New York Sirens in a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Montreal Victoire in Newark, New Jersey. Bargman’s goal came late in the first period, leveling the score after Laura Stacey’s early goal for Montreal. The rookie, who was a fifth-round pick for New York this year from Yale, where she ranks fourth in career goals, earned her first PWHL point in the previous game against the Goldeneyes.
Kristin O’Neill added her second goal of the season in the second period for New York, but Marie-Philip Poulin responded with a power play goal for the Victoire. Kaltounkova extended her scoring streak to four games with a goal to give the Sirens a 3-2 lead.
Paetyn Levis extended New York’s lead in the third period off an assist from Sarah Fillier. In a tense final few minutes, Montreal pulled their goaltender for an extra skater. Although Natalie Mlynkova redirected Abby Roque’s shot into the net with 24 seconds remaining, Montreal ran out of time to find an equalizer. Sirens goaltender Kayle Osborne had a standout performance, making a career-high 42 saves, while Abstreiter of the Victoire recorded 17 saves.
In the next games, the Victoire will host Minnesota on Sunday, while the Sirens will travel to Toronto on January 6.
