A 64-year-old man from Prince County tragically lost his life in a pedestrian accident involving a single vehicle on Thursday morning. The incident occurred on Route 1A in North Bedeque at 6:30 a.m., with response from East Prince RCMP and Island EMS as stated in an official release by the RCMP. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries later.
According to Cpl. Gavin Moore, the media relations officer for the P.E.I. RCMP, the collision involved a compact pickup truck, and the driver cooperated on-site. Authorities have ruled out alcohol and drug involvement, and investigations are ongoing.
The road closure on Route 1A lasted for a little over two hours to facilitate the work of a traffic reconstructionist, but normal traffic flow has resumed. Cpl. Moore highlighted the rarity of pedestrian fatalities on P.E.I. and emphasized the importance of vigilance for both drivers and pedestrians, suggesting the use of reflective clothing for pedestrians and cyclists to enhance safety.
Reflecting on the tragic event, Moore expressed the widespread impact such incidents have on the community, urging everyone to exercise caution and awareness on the roads.
